Deborah Siegel Ph.D.
Based in Bend, Oregon, Deborah Siegel is a learning scientist with a Ph.D. in developmental psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Throughout her career, she has had numerous professional positions within academic research, applied research, and evaluation examining formal and informal learning experiences. Taking a sociocultural approach, in her work she emphasizes studying learning and cognitive development in naturalistic, everyday interactions and contexts. Using qualitative and quantitative methods, her work has specifically focused on examining family everyday interactions as an important source of learning. In her recent work Deborah has been working in partnership with museum practitioners, librarians, and STEM professionals exploring different types of stories and storytelling can be used to provide a sense of relevance, connection, and a sense of place with the goal of supporting family STEM learning.
