Tonya Matthews Ph.D.

Associate Provost for Workforce Development and STEM Learning Innovation

Tonya Matthews is Associate Provost for Inclusive Workforce Development and Director of STEM Learning Innovation at Wayne State University. Prior to coming to Wayne State, she was Director of the Michigan Science Center. Her broad educational background spans engineering, arts, social sciences, and physical sciences. She also has worked extensively with the American Alliance of Museums on their new equity initiative and sits on the National Academies of Sciences Board on Science Education. She was recently reappointed to the National Assessment Governing Board — which guides the Nation’s Report Cards on K-12 math and science — by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
